-Heroes
---------------------

From the private journals of Bernard Kovacs, aka: "The Black Spider". Sealed in a vault (a lockbox) after his untimely death. These are his personal observations and thoughts about some of the heroes of his time period. Most were fellow members of the legendary 'Protectors' group.

-Amazonia: "I used to despise her tendency to let her rather large heart 'bleed', which created no shortage of scandals and red tape problems for her... but seeing her in action is STILL amazing to behold. I'm no pushover when it comes to combat, but the things I've seen this lovely warrior minx do in the heat of battle is simply... well... in one word... Stunning."

It's probably something that would astound someone like Doctor Manhattan, two distinctly DIFFERENT people coming together and falling in love. The Black Spider, violence practically made manifest and Amazonia, the shining paragon of peace, non-violence and strength... doesn't exactly seem like it'd have a chance to work out. But these two had worked together too long, and saved each other's lives far too often that something was bound to happen.

-Patrick Noir: "One of my personal heroes (though I've never told him) from back in the day. Knowing him, he probably deduced the truth of my secret identity when I first spent that time in Angel Falls. If not him, then his lovely little club owner friend. His disappearance had a huge effect upon Camilla... and was a great loss to the world in general."

He respects and admires Patrick Noir for his bravery and moral code. In some ways, Kovacs probably (subconsciously) wishes he could have the life (or what he thinks is the life) of Mr. Noir. Now whether or not they met again after the Spider first met Amazonia is yet to be seen.

-Spartan One: "A great soldier and an even better person. The shit that happened to him during the 50's should be seen as a national embarrassment. Despite this he STILL opted to serve his country time and time again. The world needs more men like John Waylon Carter."

Another person he grew to know and respect from his time served with the Protectors. And the admiration was mutual, the super-soldier grew to trust in the Spider's abilities, especially his keen observations, deductions, and ability to profile people. Basically a Superman/Batman kinda relationship... of sorts.

-Mr. Scarab: "While I like him, (even bordering on respect at times) and have valued his service in our time spent with the "Protectors", I'll never understand why he brought his girlfriend into this chaotic mess the masses call 'heroics'. How they both made it work I'll NEVER truely know."

As has probably become obvious, alot of my characters are dedicated bachelors, so like how Doc's amazed with Mindy Marvel's ability to juggle her life as a hero and her life as a wife and mother, the Spider is similarly perplexed by how the Scarabs are able to keep things sane in their lives. Though to be fair, they did eventually retire from the heroics business to marry.

-Ven D'Khan: "A bit on the arrogant side... and unafraid to speak his opinion on matters, (opting not to lie to his 'brethren in combat'), which didn't exactly help in some situations... Ven was none the less a valued member of the team. Well... when he opted to answer the call. Was never quite convinced of his claims that he came from Atlantis, but never felt the urge to try and verify this. As long as he got the job done, I really didn't care what he said."

Don't know what Ven D'Khan personally thought of the Spider, but there was a begrudging tolerance of the Atlantean (and his ways) on the part of the Black-clad Vigilante. The very fact that Ven considered the man one of his 'brethren in combat' is probably saying quite a bit of his opinion of the Vengeful Spectre. They really never quite 'hung out' after missions like he seemed to do with the others... so their 'relationship' (so to speak) never quite developed beyond 'work'. Plus D'Khan had other duties outside of the Protectors.

-The Kestrel: "Poor frickin' kid. Had more guts and more courage than any handful of men I've known. But in the end it didn't help him. Rather not dwell on it too much."

As you can probably guess, (if not here then on the Kestrel's sprite page) something bad happens to the Kestrel during the first mission of the Protectors. Kind of a given when the team's first enemy is a giant Nazi super-soldier who looks like he was steadily fed horse steroids over the course of many years. Now as to his final fate (whatever it may be...) will be revealed when I can finally get the first big Protectors story finished. As to how things were between the two, the Kestrel was the complete polar opposite of the Spider in terms of personality and demeanor. At first they didn't hit it off well. But he didn't let that stop him from trying to befriend the Dark Avenger.

-Alexander Valiant: "Kid's got an awfully big heart to go along with his big muscles. Took a large risk to help his country. Seems to be one of the few 'good ones' left in the world."

He probably grew more and more impressed by the future DOC Valiant as time went on, and Doc felt the same way (impressed) about the Spider too. They met on various occasions throughout the mid-to-late 20th Century when their paths happened to cross while on various missions. But as to whether they teamed-up/collaborated in unofficial capacities outside of the Protectors... well those are for stories yet told.
Finally got around to finishing this. We've read the Golden Age 'ball of violence' give his views on the villains of his era... so why not the heroes?

I might do more P.o.V.'s in the future... especially as the Protectors roster grows. Hope you all enjoy. :D
