"And this one?" asked young Horatio Danvers, smirking as he held up a newspaper photo from the Angel Falls Ledger. The old man in the wheelchair simply rolled his eyes and grumbled. This was not a new reaction for the young man, very few things didn't make his mentor groan and growl.

It was a photo of three costumed heroes, the so-called 'Big Three' of the now-disbanded Protectors standing on a rooftop. Looming over them was the large face of a costumed woman in a leopard/panther spotted jumpsuit as she stood about a head taller than the building itself. A cheshire cat smile on her beautiful face.

"Hrrrmmmm.... had forgotten how often things grew to giant size during that time period." sighed the elder, memories of what now felt like a past life flooding back into his mind. His name was Bernard Kovacs, once known better to many in the superhero/crimefighting community as the legendary "Black Spider". "See kid? This is one of the reasons I grew to dislike working outside of Centennial Ridge."

The young Horatio couldn't believe such things could become more irksome than amazing. "That's Panthera, right? I've read about her." he said as he looked over the photo. This won him another growl and grumble from his friend.
"Yes, and she is... was... one of Amazonia's greatest enemies. And if you ask me, a very annoying 'bad penny' that would always pop up when you least needed it." hissed the old warrior as he lit up a cigarette. "Case in point, this little scenario." he added, poking a pale finger at the photo.

Noticing he had the attention of his young assistant (some would say ward), Kovacs continued.

"Was about thirty years ago now. Nineteen Fifty-Three to be exact. Amazonia had convinced me and fellow Protector Spartan-One to participate in a little photoshoot. Public Relations and all that jazz. Well as it turns out, word had reached us that some of the Mighty Amazon's enemies had gathered together in an effort to rid themselves of her. Just another strong case to be made for my personal method of justice if you ask me. Very few of my enemies lived long enough to form such things. Even fewer of them were the 'team player' type." spun the old man, before taking a long drag on his cigarette. 

"Anyway... somehow or another they got a hold of this ancient trinket or whatchamacallit called the 'Prometheus Stone'. For reasons that have long escaped me, said item enlarged Panthera to the size of about roughly a hundred feet or so. Probably has something to do with the fact that it's namesake was one of the mythological Titans. Well long story short... she decides to use this to gain revenge of Amazonia. But she was more than happy to take out me and the Spartan as well if need be." his words weaving vivid imagery in his young friend's mind.

"Wow... so what happened?" asked the ethnic youngster, on edge to hear how it resolved itself.
"Escapes me at the moment. The Stone had a really lame weakness, one we were able to use to our advantage... and bring the Amazing Colossal Panthera back down to size in no time. That much I remember." to which Horatio chuckled.
"So... were they pretty big?" asked the younger man, grinning as he pointed at the giantess's chest. This got him a glare from his mentor. Puberty reared it's ugly head once more.

"Just get to the next photo, good sir." he replied, rolling his eyes as he flicked some ashes into a nearby tray.




"And yes... they were."

Like the comics that inspired the era, the Silver Age of was full of the appropriate weirdness... and more than a few giant things. Giant Ants, Giant Monsters, Giant Robots, Giant Aliens, Giant Sea Creatures... and Giant People.
